Jason’s Surly Krampus

Jason has a lot of sweet bikes, but this is probably my favorite of his. It’s hard to beat the cool factor of a single speed mountain bike, let alone a single speed mountain bike that has been tricked out like this one. Over the last few years, Jason has added more and more carbon components — wheels, crankset, seatpost and bars, even the water bottle cage! This has to be one of the lightest Surly Krampus builds out there.

The lightweight build, burly tires, and modern mountain bike geometry (short chainstays, slack headtube angle, long top tube, etc.) make this thing a ripper. Currently this is set up with a 30x15 gear ratio which is perfect for riding the Coralville trails. A quick swap to a 17t cog and its ready for Sugar Bottom and the other trail networks with more elevation around Iowa City.

Wherever Jason’s riding this bike, he’s probably riding it fast and smiling as big as ever.
