Kris’, Surly ‘Straggle Rock‘

Kris bought his Straggle Rock new in 2014 during his stint in Portland. T’was the first “Real” bike that he bought as an adult, that’s a pretty cool start. Over the years Kris has hauled this all over the country from Portland to ABQ, all over Philly, and now we have been BLESSED to see this Straggler all over Iowa City.

Kris wanted to give his beloved Surly Straggler a bit of a facelift, and he took it to the limit. We’re talking the full treatment here. A complete teardown and total rebuild, and it turned out pretty great. Let’s go on a trip.

Cool Cactus

Super cool touch added here, in love and light of his furry pal Cleo.

NOT PICTURED: KRIS’ SMILE WHILE CRUISING THESE IC STREETS

Hey wait, that aint plain! Super cool rattle-can color. Lovely details of his dog, vines, a cactus to give homage to his southwest roots (or lack thereof Kris, Kris can decide).

Super comfy setup, lets do a parts walkthrough here:

  • Velo Orange Granola Bars, COMFY AND COZY

  • Shimano Tiagra 2x10 Flat-bar setup

  • New Albion cranks

  • Rene Herse 700*42 Tires, Set up tubeless. Choices are made folks.

  • Brooks B-17 saddle, the finest and comfiest that leather can get!

Kris loves this bike, we love the Straggle Rock, and it’s just a joy to ride. We sure love a passion project like this, and it turned out great. Hat’s off to you.
